You might wonder what it means when a home has a 7 Star Energy Rating and why is this important when deciding on the builder for your new home. There are several factors that determine the energy rating including the homes roof, walls, windows and floors. The end results is a home that is more comfortable, with less need for artificial heating and cooling and of course, minimised running costs associated with climate control.
When designing a Tapscott Home we consider many elements that will create the best outcome when it comes to energy ratings. We will consider the placement of the home on the block aiming for northern orientation of living rooms, to make the most of both warmth and cool. We aim to minimise the area of east and west facing walls and windows, as this again will have a big impact on the heat in the home. We also ensure that every Tapscott Home has natural ventilation through windows and doorways, which also has the bonus of inviting in load of natural light. We can utilise shading with wider eaves and awnings where needed and only use the best insulation in the roof space and walls, while ensuring there is adequate ventilation in the roof space and eave vents. Our designs use high performance glazing and a clever use of colours particularly for roofs and walls as this can have a massive impact on temperature within the home. For homes not opting for ducted air conditioning, we use high quality ceiling fans in bedrooms and living spaces, again to reduce the heat trapped within the home. We also ensure the outdoor entertaining spaces are practical for year-round use and conducive to use in both summer and winter, making the overall home more liveable.
